Su Casa's original founder is Petra Medelez.
In 1976, Petra fled an abusive marriage.
Finding refuge at a woman's center, Petra and her children began a new life free from violence.
In 1979, she opened a crisis and hotline service and a 30-day crisis shelter, later receiving non-profit status in 1980.
Since then, Su Casa has grown and expanded its services to include a Transitional Shelter, a Teen Outreach Program, Outreach Services, and a Thrift Store, all in an effort to aid victims and survivors of domestic violence and to educate about the prevalence and prevention of domestic violence.
